How can countries decide whether to impose or lift measures on travel to or from another country? WHO has updated its guidance on international travel using a risk-based approach. There are many factors to consider, such as volume of traffic, the transmission scenarios in each country, and health system capacities. WHO has step-by-step guidance for countries to assess the options. How do we keep people safe when masks and gloves are in short supply? Health workers are still facing shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) one year since COVID-19 first began. To respond to this urgent need, WHO has updated its guidance on the rational use of PPE. Based on the latest science and information available, it is a guide for authorities to protect health workers and patients alike. WHO advises against the use of hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir for COVID-19 patients This was the latest update to WHO’s guidelines on COVID-19 treatments. This recommendation applies for all patients – regardless of disease severity. It is based on the joint findings from 30 trials with 10 000+ patients worldwide. Trust and social cohesion – powerful tools to fight COVID-19 Until biomedical tools such as vaccines or treatments are widely available, people’s behaviours and their willingness to follow public health and social measures remain the most powerful tools to stop the spread of the virus. WHO has released its global risk communication and community engagement strategy to tackle COVID-19 by working towards trust and social cohesion.
